Kera Washington of Zili Misik: http://www.zilimisik.com conducted an exciting drum/rhythm workshop. Zili Misik has been bridging cultures with captivating sounds that evoke the African continent. She talked about the history of the drum in African cultures as a mode of expression that was silenced during years of slavery.
Inspired by the drumming, Jake Giberson and Thonah Ep demonstrate Capoeira, a Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports, and music. It was created in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences.
